New York, NY (June 20, 2024) – Out and The Advocate are excited to announce their highly anticipated July/August issue covers, celebrating trailblazers who embody the spirit and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community.
Out’s cover star for this issue is the dynamic and multi-talented Joel Kim Booster. Known for his sharp wit and infectious humor, Joel has carved a unique space in the entertainment industry. His standout role in Apple TV’s Loot, captivating performances in comedy, and upcoming feature films are a testament to the power of representation and the importance of seeing our stories on screen. Booster discussed these topics in Out’s cover story in addition to his growing status as a leading man — and the body that comes with it.
The issue also features its annual “Most Eligible Bachelors” list, highlighting remarkable individuals who are successful in their respective fields and embody the values of authenticity, resilience, and compassion. These bachelors remind us that eligibility is not just about status or appearance but about making a positive impact and living true to oneself.
The Advocate is proud to feature the iconic Cyndi Lauper on its cover. For decades, Cyndi has been a steadfast ally of the LGBTQ+ community, using her voice and platform to advocate for equality and acceptance. This issue also unveils this year's “The Advocates,” an annual list highlighting LGBTQ+ individuals and allies who drive progress and foster positive change. These extraordinary people embody the spirit of advocacy, working tirelessly to create a more inclusive and just society. Cyndi Lauper is among them, exemplifying the transformative leadership and allyship our community deeply values.
"We celebrate the changemakers who fight for equality,” said Mark Berryhill, CEO of equalpride, the LGBTQ+-owned and operated publisher of Out and The Advocate. “And commemorate the champions past and present who continue to inspire our efforts to make a more equal and equitable future.”
The July/August flipbook issue will be on newsstands beginning July 2nd.

Select Quotes from Joel Kim Booster for Out
“I want to be an Asian sex symbol…[but it seems] also very regressive almost when I look at it through a queer lens. I feel very conflicted about it at all times. Always.”
“I think it’s really tempting to look around at the landscape of casting today and be like, Oh, we’ve made so many great strides. There’s so many more Asian people. There’s so many more queer characters. There’s all of these things. But unless there’s depth to those characters, it’s still not a victory.”
Select Quotes from Cyndi Lauper for The Advocate
“Hon, I’m a family member!”
“When I sang, I felt free…And if you have someone constantly up your bum telling you what to sing, what to think, when to do it, how to do it, then what are you doing? I didn’t step into music to be a model and model someone else’s work. I stepped into it to create my own.”
